Best Music Player Apps for Android

Music Apps for Android
If you’re like me then you like to use your phone to listen to music and you also like to customize almost everything. That is why I am going to use this post to compare some of the more popular music apps.

1.    Music Player
This app is the one that I personally use to listen to my music. You can use it watch videos and listen to podcasts as well.

In the song list, it shows the album art next to each song. It has an equalizer that has presets for different genres as well as presets for playing in different rooms based on reverberation. It has a lock screen and a notification bar widget, both of which allow you to easily Pause/Play/Play Next/Play Previous without having to actually go into the app. The lock screen widget changes your lock screen to the album art.

One drawback is that you can’t easily go to the “Now Playing” screen from the song list. You either have to go through the notification bar widget or go to the home screen of the app and select “Now Playing”. Another thing is it doesn't let you change the color of the skin, but since blue is my favorite color, I don't mind as much =]

2.Fusion
This app is for you techy people out there who want the advanced settings. Fusion works with the internet so it allows you to search online to get access to any song, find related music that you might like based on your favorite albums and artists, and MP3 cutter to trim down songs and create ringtones, share your favorite music on Facebook and Twitter.

It has an Equalizer with 12 presets and a bass booster, has immersive 3D surround sound, automatically updates album and artist images and gets you information about artists and albums. Some other cool features are a sleep timer, multiple skins, seamless Youtube integration, online radio, and shake and wave control.

This app also has the lock screen and notification bar widget. I think these are all really cool features, but a huge setback for me is that I can’t seamlessly unlock my phone while this app is playing music. You have to press an “X” on the lock screen widget before you can unlock your phone.

It is a very powerful app if you like the things listed above, but is overkill if you are looking just for a simple song player.

3. Music Player
This app has everything that I look for in a music app. It has a lock screen and a notification bar widget, it is pleasing to the eye, and has a customizable theme. It also has an equalizer for those who like to mess with that sort of thing.

You can choose to add “Shake” options such as pausing, going to the next song, or going to the previous song when you shake it. One feature I think is really cool is that you can set a Sleep Timer, which could be really nice for people who like to set a time for exercising or if they like to fall asleep to their music. Another feature is the ability to switch around the order of the songs directly in the app.

There are a few things that are drawbacks for me on this one. The first is that the notification bar widget doesn’t include a “Previous Song” button, only “Pause” and “Next Song”, which is annoying if you accidentally go past a song you actually wanted to listen to. The next is that on the Now Playing screen, the area for the name of the song is small, meaning that it cuts off the name most of the time. The last issue is that it is not very user friendly if you want to add a song to a playlist without playing the song. Overall, it's a solid app.

4. Music Player
This app has a very sleek design. Everything but the top bar is transparent so you can see your picture in the background. It has some preloaded pictures or you can upload your own. It has a lock screen and a notification bar widget which is always helpful and it replaces your lock screen wallpaper with the album art. It also has an equalizer and options for Sleep Mode, Shaking, and fading in and out of songs.

One issue with this app right off the bat is that it is obviously made by a non-English speaker due to quite a few grammatical errors. Another issue for me is there are multiple Ads on the home page and one Ad continuously at the bottom of the screen. If you try to scroll quickly through the song list the app has trouble keeping up and will momentarily freeze until it catches back up. The Play/Next/Previous buttons are also fairly small on the screen, making it hard to navigate quickly. The notification bar widget does not go away after you stop playing music, which is convenient if you want it there, but a hassle for me as I don’t care for it to always be there. This app has a lot of potential if you are willing to look past a few annoyances.

5. Music
This app is extremely simple and good if you just want to play music straight out of the app. It does also have an equalizer with some preset options for different styles of music. There is no lock screen widget. In the notification bar, it will tell you what song is playing but won’t let you pause/play/next/previous from there. The theme is black and white with no way to change it, though it still looks nice despite this. The simplicity of it is appealing, but the lack of a lock screen widget is a deal breaker for me.

There's so many music player apps out there, I hope that you can narrow down your options on which ones are right for you. Now you can sing until your heart's is content.
